The University of Hawaii at Hilo invites the public to “Is Science a Meritocracy?: Issues of Diversity and Equity.”
The presentation is 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 108 of the UH-Hilo Science and Technology Building.
Dr. Kathy Cooksey, UH-Hilo assistant professor of astronomy, will discuss the “leaky science pipeline,” which is the gradual attrition of people at all stages on the path to a science-related career. She also will present the demographics of scientists in various fields and offer researched-based suggestions to combat the adversity.
